Glad Tidings

In the early 1950s, a small group of believers under the leadership of Brother Elijah Williams banded together and began an evangelistic and outreach thrust within the Moore Hill district in the north of the island. From this effort, a church was formed and through much sacrifice, a building purchased for assembly. These members later aligned themselves with United Holy Church of America sometime during the 1960s and took the name Glad Tidings given by Bishop Jestina Gentles. In the late 1990s after much prayer, the land on which the church now stands was purchased.

It was a pleasurable moment to see the men of the district come together to move the wooden structure to make room for a new wall building. On February 18, 2001 the congregation at Glad Tidings proudly made their way into a new structure after a ribbon was cut by Bishop St. Clair Howell. This church was pastored by three great pastors before its present leader, Pastor Glyne Greaves. Elder Elijah Williams, Assistant Pastor Eunice Griffith, Elder FitzGerald Kirton and Elder Franklyn Smith will ever be remembered at this church for the untiring work done for Christ. They paved the way for the young vibrant and anointed Pastor (now Elder) Glyne Greaves. Glad Tidings continues to spread the Word of God through the various ministries offered at the church. As it grows, its emphasis remains on training and equipping the membership to fulfill their God-given potential.
