Out of a series of open-air services conducted by a Brother Alexander Hope during the late 1940s, a church was born and members worshipped in Pastor Hope’s home. Bishop Harry Gentles was at the time invited to visit with this group. As a result of the discussions, in 1949, the group requested Bishop Gentles to take charge of the work, organize them and set the church in order. This he did. Thus he had been involved with this church from its early days. The first wooden building constructed and used for worship was destroyed in 1955 by Hurricane Janet. A second wooden building replaced it. Pastor Hope remained the leader of the church until sometime in the early 1960s when he was succeeded by Pastor Richard Codrington. Following him were Pastor Laurie Trotman (1966) and Elder Donald Padmore (1983).
The current pastor, Elder Rodney Todd, assumed this position with effect from June, 2009. Construction of the present edifice, supervised by Bishop St. Clair Howell and Elder Bruce Lynch, began in April 2005. Completion of the building was the result of sacrificial giving of finances and other resources by a number of persons – church members, friends, relatives and well-wishers. The Barbados District Treasury of the United Holy Church of America contributed approximatey 50% of the money spent on the construction.
Today, we give God the glory for the faithful leaders and members of the past and for the achievements experienced. As the church continues to minister in its immediate surroundings and beyond, we look forward, with anticipation, to a harvest of souls for the kingdom of God.
