Bennett’s Temple

This church, located on the North-Eastern side of the island, was started in the 1940s under the leadership of Brother Alfred Austin and Brother Allan Beckles. It was then known as the Pie Corner Pentecostal Church and held its services in the living room of the late Mother Miriam Leslie — a lady intent on sharing the love of Jesus Christ with those in need. People would come from all around the district to hear the worshippers shouting and praising God. God moved in a mighty way, souls were saved and became members. Crowded conditions made it clear that a building for worship was needed. The next chapter of this church’s existence saw the hand of God move in a miraculous way. The late Bishop Harry Gentles, while on tour around the island with Mother Margaret Bennett – a visiting Missions Director from the USA – saw the church and met with its leadership. As a result of the meeting, the church became affiliated to the United Holy Church of America.

The fervent prayers of those faithful northerners were answered when Mother Bennett purchased a plot of land for the church. A small building was acquired and the church was renamed Bennett’s Temple in honour of this benefactor. This church has been blessed to have fine Pastors: Elder Kenneth Harewood, who shared his time between Mt. Zion and Bennett’s Temple, Reverend St. Clair Boyce, Evangelist Shirley Boyce, Pastor Reginald Bailey, Bishop St. Clair Howell, Elder Audrey Yorke-Lewis and Pastor Lenora Boyce all laboured for the Master as the leader of the church. Elder Ronald Odle succeeded Pastor Lenora Boyce. He consolidated the work of previous pastors and continued to chart a course in the ministry of the church. Under his leadership, the membership, with support from the District, has constructed a new edifice for worship. There is evidence of spiritual progress as the church keeps focused on its divine mission of winning the lost for Christ.

The mantle of leadership passed from Elder Odle to Pastor Rico Griffith who was installed in this role on Sunday, August 27, 2017.
