The late Elder Clement Taylor, founder and Pastor of the Mt. Ararat Church, was also a founder member of the Barbados District of the United Holy Church of America Inc. He began by holding open-air services in the Dayrell’s Road, Christ Church area in the early 1930s. The first place of worship for the new congregation was a house donated by Sister Rhoda Niles. The church will ever be grateful to her for her selfless act. Sometime later, the old building was reconstructed with the assistance of the Barbados District of the United Holy Church of America Inc. After the death of Elder Taylor in 1967, his wife, Pastor Dorothy Taylor took over the leadership of the church, which continued to make significant strides and experience growth in all departments.
She was faithfully assisted by Evangelist Reginald Wooding. In 1997, Evangelist (now Elder) Lorenda Clarke, the daughter of Elder Clement Taylor, was ordained as Pastoral Evangelist, and served in the capacity of Associate Pastor. In April 1999, she was elevated to the post of Pastor due to the failing health of Mother Taylor, as she was affectionately known. The church continues to be a beacon in its Christ Church neighbourhood and many gather there especially for the weekly prayer services. The outreach programme encompasses visits to the District Hospital and to a Nursing Home. There is also a thrust, designed to win the lost through open-air services. With effect from November 2016, Minister Sylvester Forte assumed office as Pastor of this church. He is continuing the legacy of the previous pastors as the church continues to pursue its mission to reach the lost and win them into the kingdom of God.
